CUT And University Of Botswana Form SADC Partnership. The University of Botswana and the Central University of Technology (CUT) have a long-standing collaboration in research and academic thematic mobility of staff and students. The signing of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has led to a focus on Work-Integrated Learning between the two institutions.

During the visit, both parties engaged in fruitful discussions regarding the future of higher education, with a particular focus on digital transformation and academic synergies. Prof. Alfred Ngowi, acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal of CUT, underscored the institution’s commitment to becoming a leading University of Technology by 2030, driven by innovation and digitization initiatives.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving this vision, especially in areas such as WIL and sports, which cannot be fully digitized.

Mutual Vision and Mission

Prof. Norris commended CUT dedication to innovation and aligning its mission with the evolving needs of the region. He noted the similarities between CUT’s vision and the aspirations of the University of Botswana, highlighting the potential for synergistic partnerships across various academic disciplines.

In particular, Prof. Norris expressed interest in leveraging CUT’s expertise in jewellery design to bolster Botswana’s economy, which is largely reliant on the diamond industry.

Both institutions recognized the value of internationalizing their curricula and enhancing student experiences through cross-border collaborations.
