SETA Career Fair is Co-hosted by CUT. The Central University of Technology (CUT) Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Office recently partnered with Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) to organize a Career Fair. This event, held on 15 October 2024, aimed to provide valuable career information and opportunities to CUT students, including internships, learnerships, and bursaries.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

WIL plays a crucial role in preparing students for the professional world by merging academic learning with practical, industry-based experience. At CUT, students are not only required to complete WIL modules but must also do so in a field relevant to their qualification and within specific timeframes. This structured workplace learning is crucial and is assessed at the appropriate National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level. Moving forward, all CUT programs lasting three years or more must include a WIL component of at least 30 credits.

CUT Career Fair Details

The Career Fair saw the participation of twelve SETAs and attracted 400 students. It served as a platform for SETAs to offer guidance and information on various career paths, as well as provide details on available internships, learnerships, and bursaries.

CUT Financial Support for Students

The collaboration between the WIL office and CUT Innovation Services (CUTis) has been fruitful, raising a total of R11.7 million in 2024. This funding is allocated to assist students with placement stipends, internships, and bursaries. Prof. Mabokang Monnapula-Mapesela, Dean of Academic Development and Support, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the positive impact on student opportunities and outcomes.
