Student Leader Excellence Award Won By Enactus CUT Deputy President in 2024. Mr Taelo Matlala, Enactus CUT Deputy President and third-year Mechanical Engineering student, received the 2023 WV de Wet Student Leader Excellence Award at Enactus South Africa National Competitions. This recognition highlights his exceptional dedication to Enactus CUT and its mission of fostering leaders dedicated to making a positive impact.

Taelo Journey with Enactus CUT

Hailing from Limpopo, Taelo joined Enactus to create meaningful change in communities under the guidance of Enactus Faculty Advisors. With the support of Ms Maraka Lefera, Professors Crispen Chipunza and Patient Rambe, and the collaborative spirit of his fellow members, Taelo embarked on a mission to address societal challenges through entrepreneurial action.

Vermivillage: A Model of Success

Under Taelo leadership, the team worked on a Vermiculture Enterprise called Vermivillage, centered around sustainable agriculture and Vermitechnology. The enterprise aimed to empower farmers, communities, schools, and churches to become skilled worm farmers, fostering a community of environmentally conscious entrepreneurs.

Impact and Recognition

Taelo project resulted in community members developing the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful worm farmers, introducing worm farming growers in the central region. The enterprise not only addressed pressing environmental issues but also fostered economic growth, social empowerment, and supported some of the United Nations’ Sustainable Goals.

Enactus CUT has consistently fostered a culture of leadership, innovation, and social responsibility, becoming a cradle for young visionaries. The university has produced leaders recognized within the university, on a national platform, and beyond, including Thembisile Tyopo, 2019 Project Manager, and Yanelisa Giyose, 2022 Enactus CUT President.
