Youth Business Zone competition launch featuring CUT Tourism and Hospitality Management students.The Free State Provincial Tourism Career Expo launched the Youth Business Zone Competition on 03 August 2023 at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT). The event was held to encourage young ‘studentpreneurs’ in the Tourism and Hospitality Management career field from both CUT and Motheo TVET college to showcase their innovative ideas.

Launch Details

The launch event, which also forms part of the Free State Provincial Tourism Career Expo, invited students to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. This initiative aims to assist students with their entrepreneurial innovations as they prepare to enter the tourism and hospitality industry after completing their studies.

Collaboration and Support

The launch was a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders including CUT, Free State Department: Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), Free State Department of Education, Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality, Sports, Sector Education Training Authority (CATHSSETA), and Motheo TVET College.

Competition and Prizes

Senior CUT and Motheo TVET College students in Tourism and Hospitality Management presented their innovative business ideas and proposals to the panel of judges. The competition offered cash prizes valued at R80,000 to assist the winning students in starting up their business ventures.
