Visit of U.S. Consulate Johannesburg to CUT. The U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg, led by Mr. Vincent Spera, recently paid a visit to the Central University of Technology (CUT) on 16th September 2024. The purpose of the visit was to explore potential areas of collaboration and reinforce the longstanding relationship between the two institutions.

Building Partnerships for Success

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Henk de Jager, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of CUT, who emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving success. Prof. de Jager stated, “Partnerships are crucial for our success. We believe that by collaborating with others, we can achieve more than we could on our own. We hope that by the end of your visit, you will not only be our guests but also our friends.”

Exploring Collaborative Opportunities

During the visit, CUT representatives showcased several innovative projects and initiatives currently underway at the university. They also discussed how the U.S. Consulate, through its various programs, could enhance CUT’s presence in the United States. The delegation had the opportunity to tour the campus and visit some of its research centers.

Strengthening International Partnerships

CUT has a strong history of international partnerships and collaborations. Some of the notable collaborations include partnerships with Illinois University and the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, Nebraska State University and the Faculty of Engineering Built Environment and Information Technology, Station 1 Laboratory Inc., University of West Kentucky, and Georgia State University. These partnerships focus on various areas such as agriculture, information technology, STEM education, and teacher education development research.


The visit by the U.S. Consulate General and its delegates to CUT represents a significant step towards strengthening the ties between the two institutions. It underscores the importance of collaboration and partnerships in achieving mutual success and advancing knowledge and innovation.
