This afternoon, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CUT) bestowed an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering upon Prof. Seeram Ramakrishna from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Prof. Ramakrishna, currently a Visiting Professor in CUT Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, is renowned as one of the world most influential scientific minds, as recognized by the media and Thomson Reuters in 2014 and 2015.

Prof. Ramakrishna| A Pioneer in Nanomaterial Science

Prof. Ramakrishna is celebrated as the world’s foremost scientist in the field of nanomaterials, with applications spanning healthcare, energy, water, and the environment. His research over the past three decades has yielded groundbreaking contributions, particularly in novel processing techniques and understanding the functional behavior of composite materials, nanofibers, and nanoparticles.

CUT Recognition and Awards

Prof. Ramakrishna has received numerous awards and accolades for his pioneering contributions in the processing and functional development of composite materials, biomaterials, and nanomaterials. He has been a guiding force in the Future of Manufacturing initiative at NUS, leading a team of 50 faculty members in innovating manufacturing processes suitable for regional coordination and mass customization of products, while also fostering local competence in future manufacturing skills.

CUT Mentorship and Supervision

With a commitment to nurturing future talent, Prof. Ramakrishna has supervised 50 PhD students and mentored 100 post-doctoral fellows, research engineers, and visiting scholars. His influence extends beyond academia, as he serves on the scientific advisory boards of NUS spin-off companies, including Biomers International, Electrospunra, and Insight Bioventures.
