Established in 1981 as the “Technikon Free State,” CUT began its journey with just 285 students enrolled in secretarial, art, and design programs. Today, the university has grown significantly, with over 21,000 students choosing CUT for its academic excellence and commitment to providing quality education and work-integrated learning opportunities.

In 2004, with the restructuring of the higher education landscape, CUT embraced its new identity as a university of technology (UoT), positioning itself for even greater success.
