CUT Confers Four Doctoral Degrees at Its Welkom Campus. The Central University of Technology (CUT) recently celebrated a momentous occasion, conferring doctoral degrees upon four outstanding candidates during its graduation ceremony. This event marked a significant milestone as it was the first physical graduation ceremony held since March 2024, with a total of 3,798 graduates proudly walking the stage.

Chancellor Doctorandi Dinner: A Celebration of Academic Excellence

In recognition of their remarkable achievement, the university hosted the Chancellor Doctorandi Dinner. This prestigious event serves as a showcase of the highest academic standards, celebrating the academic prowess and contributions of the newly crowned doctors to the advancement of CUT as a leading center of learning.

Chancellor Mahube Molemela Congratulations

CUT Chancellor, Justice Mahube Molemela, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the newly capped doctors. She praised their hard work, determination, and academic excellence, stating, “As an institution with a vision to be the leading African university of technology, we strive for the quality and determination you have displayed through your hard work.”

A Call to Action: Applying Knowledge to Solve  Challenges

Chancellor Molemela also challenged the candidates to apply their newfound knowledge to solve post-COVID-19 problems and to support their communities in need. She emphasized the importance of giving back and uplifting others, stating, “As you begin this new chapter in the journey of your lives, remember to plough back into the communities that you come from and to lift others as you rise.”

The Newly Capped Doctors

The four newly capped doctors are:

  • Dr Phumzile Masala, Doctor of Communication in Language Practice
  • Dr Mmamore Babedi, Doctor of Education
  • Dr Lucien Lezar, Doctor of Philosophy in Management Sciences
  • Dr Mkhumbulo Ndlovu, Doctor of Education

Graduation Statistics

A total of 3,798 students graduated during the 2024 Autumn Graduations, with 2,981 from the Bloemfontein Campus and 817 from the Welkom Campus, including 14 master’s and 4 doctoral degree students.

This graduation ceremony not only celebrated academic excellence but also highlighted CUT’s commitment to producing future leaders and innovators who will make a positive impact on society.
